Asafa Powell?

I was very disappointed to see Powell 'give up' with 10 metres to go in the final, and subsequently cost him a silver medal, is this the kind of attitude a world record holder should be sending to the youth of today's world?





As a Jamaican I'm disappointed that he gave up!!|||It's hard to admit, but I truly believe now that Asafa is a Great Runner but a bad competitor!!





He does that all the time! He also lacks concentration because in another game he was running and staring at the score board and he mangaged to knock someone out of there lane! WTF!!?





I KNEW he was going to lose it when I saw the previous races before the big race... you know when Bahamas was first place? When Bahamas passsed him, he looked at Bahamas like "wha the hell?" and SLOWED down..that's why Bahamas won that race!





Same thing why tyson win and Bahamas beat him for the silver!! He is sitting there worried about Tyson and Bahama Boy instead of the damn finish line!! DONE DEM' and stop fret bout how come im so fast!!


Even the host said that he does not work well under pressure so if tyson could shake his nerves, he would win!! And sure enough..he won!! He needs to take ALL those nerves and put it into running with all he has! If he ran with all his might, and lost, i would understand. But I think the reason why we are so upset is because WE ALL KNOW he did not give it his all!! Did you see Tyson Gay's face when he was running..he face was BENT to the max..his eyes bulging, he face shaking..he was giving it ALL HE HAD!!





I will now say a joke that is bad about Tyson Gay b/c i still luv Asafa:





Tyson Gay is sooo Gay that...J/k..I just think it's funny how people make fun of his last name!!|||He knew he was not going to win gold so he gave up he does not have the drive of a champion I am sure if you look at the times he has run a 9.74 yoiu will see everytime he had a good tail wind. I predict his record will fall within next 6 months.|||It is a very poor sporting attitude, and he cracked mentally when his chief rival - Tyson Gay - was clearly going to win the gold medal. Sprinting is such a mind-game event, but what truly sets the all-time greats in a category by themselves is not just fast times, but how they competed when they weren't going to cross the line in first.|||Erm, not really. I personally really like Asafa, but I imagine there are a lot of people disappointed to see Asafa give up (and he did, because he looked down as soon as Tyson Gay went past him. One of the first things you learn as a beginner in running is to run through the line).





No, it isn't the type of attitude one would expect from a world record holder. On BBC in Britain, Michael Johnson stated that he could not remember another time when a world record holder just gave up the ghost when he/she realised defeat was imminent.





There has been a lot made of his big-match temperament (the fact that he can't seem to get it done at the Worlds and Olympics, despite having won everything previous). Lets hope it was because he wasn't as sharp as he would have liked, and we will see him truly rise to the occasion next year in Bejing.
