Have the Aussies found a cure for Muralitharan? Or are they being subjective to an individual ?

DEBATES over cricket's most emotive issue, whether a bowler is a chucker, could soon be settled immediately by a strap-on device that will measure the angle of the bowler's arm on each delivery.

Researchers at Queensland's Griffith University have developed a prototype of the device, which can be worn on the field and allows umpires to determine immediately if a bowler is bowling illegally.

The device uses electronic sensors to measure the degree of elbow extension from the time the bowling arm reaches a horizontal level to the ball's release.

International Cricket Council regulations stipulate a 15-degree maximum for elbow extension in the bowling action. This is accepted as the point at which the elbow extension begins to become noticeable to the eye.

The ICC and the Marylebone Cricket Club will fund Griffith's development of the device. ICC cricket general manager David Richardson praised the concept of a device that a bowler could wear during a match. He said the technology would be critical in efforts to enforce the regulations on illegal bowling actions.

Sri Lankan spin bowler Muttiah Muralidaran, the world record-holder for Test wickets taken, has come under constant scrutiny throughout his career because of his unorthodox bowling action. He has been tested and found to be within the 15-degree limit.

Griffith University project leader Daniel James said the device would help remove controversy "and let people get on with playing the game". Dr James said the device could be useful in competition, as well as helping coaches to assess arm action early in a player's development to prevent injury, improve performance and correct faults in technique.

"Once somebody has developed an arm action, it is very hard to correct on the day. But asa training tool this device could be invaluable, especially fordeveloping athletes," Dr James said.

"We are hoping to deliver a lot of the performance information about bowling and that would include some of the angles that are of concern. We will also gather information we are looking for to help quantify what a bowler is doing. We can then compare different bowlers."

Until now, the angle of a bowler's arm could only be measured in one of a handful of sports laboratories or by using a complex system of multiple video cameras. "We are using micro-electromechanical sensors, which have got steadily smaller over the years because they are used a lotin automobile technology," Dr James said.|||Another one of those jokes by the Aussies.

Tell them to try it on Brett Lee and Sean Tait first?|||That sounds very interesting %26amp; will surely help future bowlers, but I don't see much wrong with Murali's action. It was approved by ICC after all, so I accept it.|||SHAME ON AUSSIES!!!

No one can stop Murali... he is the current leading wicket tacker for both ONE DAY %26amp; TEST!!!! What a fantastic Performanceses!!!!!|||Hes an ICC recognize bowler|||I don't know why people wary about murali?(pissu B) murali's bowling

action far more better then your walking action,so forget it murali's

bowling action,JUST IMPROVE YOUR WALKING ACTION.

some body has problem for murali's look's when he bowl, WELL NOW

first thing is murali is good looking man no doubt about it, i don't know

who has problem for murali look's when he bowl? BUT i would say ,

Tight (fix) three stumps behind your *** when you go to sleep in bed.

MURALI IS GREAT BOWLER IN WORLD.|||the icc cleared murali, but for their own motives. if they didn't, questions would be asked: "why is he being kicked out now? why didn't someone pick up on it when he was a junior cricketer? how did he play test cricket before this became an issue?"

they obviously didn't want to kick him out, which they would effectively be doing by ruling his action as illegal, because they didn't have an answer for those questions. by definition of the rules at the time, he chucked. he extended his arm by more than 10 degrees, and at the time, the rules only allowed 5 degrees. they now allow 15 degrees. without the rule change, he wouldn't be able to play. (the icc also found other bowlers who broke the 5 degree rule, but only after the murali incident.)

unlike some other spinners from the subcontinent, murali is a wonderful man and nobody has a bad word to say about him personally. it's not his fault that nobody questioned his action until he was in the international spotlight. he was just bowling a cricket ball the same as always. the way crowds treat him, particularly here in australia, is disgraceful. this whole mess is the icc's fault, not murali's.|||MURALI BOWLING ACTION IS DEFINITELY ILLEGAL. HE GETS HIS EXTRA SPIN DUE TO EXTRA BEND IN HIS ARM WHILE HE WAS BOWLING AND U GET EXTRA AMOUNT OF SPIN AS COMPARE TO UR NORMAL BOWLING ACTION. SO ITS UNFAIR FOR OTHER BOWLERS WHO ARE TRYING THEIR BEST IN THEIR TYPICAL ACTIONS WHERE AS MURALI GETS ADVANTAGE FOR HIS ILLEGAL ACTION. EVEN IF ONE PLAYER IN INDIA DOMESTIC CIRCUIT WHOSE BOWLING IS IDENTICAL TO THE MURALI ACTION, HE HAS DECLARED ILLEGAL BOWLING ACTIONS BY THE BCCI. MURALI TAKES MORE ADVANTAGES AS TO THE COMPARE TO THE ANY TYPICAL SPIN BOWLER DUE TO HIS BOWLING ACTION.

YEAH I AGREE THAT HE HAS PASSED THE LAB TEST REGARDING HIS BOWLING ACTION. BUT U DON'T BOWL AT LAB TO TAKE WICKETS AND TO PLAY TO WIN FOR UR COUNTRY.

IN INTERNATIONAL MATCHES, HE BOWLS LOTS OF DELIVERY WITH ILLEGAL ACTION AND THAT IS THE FACT, NOBODY CAN DENY IT.

THIS TYPE OF BOWLER DOESN'T DESERVE ANY CREDIT IN INTERNATIONAL CRICKET. FOR ME HE IS AN ILLEGAL BOWLER AND EVEN IF OTHER MEDIOCRE BOWLERS ALSO FAR BETTER THAN MURALI BECAUSE MEDIOCRE BOWLERS TRY TO TAKE WICKETS WITH LEGAL ACTION WHEREAS MURALI, HE TRY TO TAKE WICKETS WITH ILLEGAL ACTION.

PEOPLE COMPARES MURALI WITH SHANE WARNE, I BELIEVE THAT MURALI IS FAR AWAY FROM SHANE WARNE REPUTATION IN CRICKET. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MURALI AND WARNE IS JUST LIKE DISTANCE BETWEEN EARTH AND SUN. MURALI IS EARTH AND WARNE IS SUN.

MURALI IS DOESN'T DESERVE ANY SINGLE AMOUNT OF RESPECTS, HE IS A CHEAT AND HE BOWLS WITH ILLEGAL ACTIONS AND TAKE LOT OF WICKETS WITH HIS ILLEGAL ACTION.|||I think it is a logical development from the lab. It will help remove dishonesty from borderline actions, if there is any variation between lab testing and actual play. Murali, should welcome this technology, if he was honest in the lab, as it would indicate that his action if illegal on the field.
